Anti-social(ist)

without comments

Gurcharan Das’ piece in ToI today, sheds light on one of the most irritating practices in Indian politics.

Do read: Let’s stop living a lie.

Leave behind comments if you may. Let’see how many of us really lose sleep over our country’s development or the lack of it.

Deicide at Melbourne

with one comment

Roger Federer’s attempt to reach his 11th consecutive grand slam final, failed when Novak Djokovic stole an easy victory over him at Melbourne.

Personally I think Fed-ex wasn’t at the peak of his performance all through the Open. And Djokovic has been the only real danger to his winning any grand slam in the recent past. Hopefully he’ll recover and regain his throne as Emperor.

Juno

with one comment

Just saw Juno. I know, I know. You’re probably asking “But it hasn’t released in India yet!”. But so hasn’t Superbad … and I saw that ages ago. So stop asking stupid questions.

Basically Juno is a good movie. Not something that will get rose petals strewn across the red carpet at the Oscars, but something that will make you feel good. A movie that is so nicely balanced. I don’t like explaining why I like a movie or a book, so go watch it for yourself.

Next up on the list: Will Ferrell starrer “Semi Pro”. And no I’m not looking for inputs regarding my movie watching habits from Polanski idolizing, Coppola brown-nosing, Kubrick loving, DePalma infatuating purists.

Update: Juno has reached #117 on the IMDB Top 250 list.

The JCB song

without comments

All of you who loved Taare Zameen Par, would appreciate “The JCB Song”. Luke is dyslexic and as a school-going child faces nothing less than what Ishaan does in the movie. His only escape from the world is when his dad, who is a construction worker, takes him to work on his JCB. This song is about Luke, his dad and their ride on the JCB.

It also goes out to every kid who’s been bullied at school. Do visit the website: http://www.jcbsong.co.uk

Bicycle lifts

with one comment

Bangalore is a growing city. Wait outside an ATM seems to be getting longer each day. Public rage (and road rage) is growing by the day. Every day traffic signals seem to be red longer than the previous. And every day I seem to weigh a pound heavier than the previous. So I’m seriously considering getting a bicycle to ride to office.

This morning the news about Tata’s 1 lakh rupee car was all over TV. I’m amazed that a nation where traffic congestion is a major issue would allow something so affordable to be launched! I mean yeah people should have better things in life, but how much better are the roads going to be after this car hits the market full swing?

On the other hand sparsely populated nations in Europe are encouraging people to ride bicycles so that the environment is protected. Here’s a video of something uniquely Nordic. It’s called a bicycle lift and it is a big reason why the village of Trondheim, Norway is full of bicycle riders.

In which I play devil’s advocate

without comments

I have been hearing news about Harbhajan Singh taming the ICC, Steve Bucknor being chastised for unfair umpiring and the likes. But I don’t think something’s right here. I love to douse public elation especially when it’s obtained from constant bickering and sobbing about being treated unfairly.

Just spare a moment and reflect on these things:

- How many of us think Indians are racist because they call foreigners Gora Chamdi and in general dismiss them as being dumb if they have classic good looks and blonde hair?

- How many of us think the any group of people is highly racist if it militantly prevent inclusion of outsiders, regardless of skin color, into their cliques?

- How many of us think that all this politically correct hullabaloo is media driven and everyone’s forgotten about the game altogether? Come on slander and racial innuendos were always there, people just cared a lot less about it back then.

Overall I think sense of humor has been replaced by individual ego. See how the Harbhajan issue has clouded the whole bad umpiring one. And no one’s even sure what happened there! Political correctness and diplomacy have taken priority over the spirit of the game. The world’s fast turning into a horribly boring place to be, with so many restrictions on the freedom of speech.

Play the game or get the hell out of there. Friggin’, diddley doo-duds!

Wizards in Winter

without comments

That’s the name of the song in the video below.

If you stay in Frisco, Texas and wonder why there is a power cut during Christmas every year, the guy whose house is featured in the video could be responsible :P

What imagination and creativity! Beautiful light arrangement and perfect timing. Great song too. Enjoy!

PS: Yes I know about the other guy from Columbus, OH. I just thought this was cooler.

And sense prevails …

with 4 comments

Just got back from watching Taare Zameen Par. Don’t think the movie needs any introduction.

It has been, and continues to, be applauded by the industry big-wigs and general public alike.

A million thanks to Aamir Khan and the entire Taare… team for such a wonderful movie.

You guys have reached out to millions with the message a lot of us have been able to get through
to a mere handful so far. Thanks again.
