The day music dies…
Recent developments in the US have brought the end of freedom on the Internet much closer. A recent ruling will make the royalty rates for webcasters go through the roof. The changes are due to go into effect on July 15. Internet radio site Pandora.com is already sending out emails to users anticipating a situation wherein it will not be able to offer its services free of charge to those outside US. Of course your guess is as good as mine as to who is lobbying for this move.
I urge you all to sign a petition to prevent this murder of democracy. Or at least write to the congressperson and show your support towards the Internet Radio Equality Act and save Pandora and other such webcasters. This act counters the terms in the senate ruling and will at least let the stations stay afloat with their current finances.
