Gere faces arrest

without comments

The last few weeks have seen a huge furore over Richard Gere kissing Ms. “Big Brother” Shetty during an AIDS awareness drive. But this is downright ridiculous. I applaud the citizens of Jaipur for having dealt “so maturely” with the topic. ROFLMAO.

Read all about it at Yahoo news:

I’m shippin’ up to Boston

This one’s been haunting me ever since I saw The Departed. I can’t over emphasize on the male-ness quotient of the movie. You don’t like that sentence? Well then kiss my wanker!
Anywho, here’s the number by Dropkick Murphys. Enjoy!

33 funerals and a wedding

without comments

When Cho Seung-Hu opened fire in one of the halls at Virginia Tech 3 days back, he must’ve wanted to reach out to someone. Who that someone was, is still unclear. But surely it mustn’t have been somebody from India.

How can I be so sure? Well, what else can you expect from a country that is obsessed with the Aishwarya-Abhishek wedding. Most of the newspapers here carried no news on the morning following the shootings at VTech. Neither was there any sort of major breaking news ticker on most TV channels. All this was two days after the incident, when even a 2-year-old somewhere in East Timor be knowing Cho’s family history replete with his postman’s name, courtesy of the CNN coverage.

However the newspapers have done a fine job covering the AbhiAsh wedding over the past one month. Complete itineraries from the sangeet to the day of the actual marriage have been printed and re-printed after every little change of plan. List of guests have appeared every day with regular updates after every revision. By now every kid in every corner of the country is eagerly awaiting the moment the plastic Ms. Rai ties the knot with the proud Master “i’m-so-lucky-to-be-in-business-after-movies-like-Mumbai se aya mera dost” Bachchan.

Only after 3 of the deceased were identified to be of Indian origin, did the heavyweights of the 4th estate, move from their high thrones. And then a Frankenstein of an article was sewn together for the information hungry population of India. But with as much urgency, this article was pushed into the dark attic of history. There was no mention of the university rampage 3 days after, in any of the dailies or news channels. Why? Because it was the day after the over hyped sangeet for the Bachchan-Rai wedding. The whole ceremony was detailed in photo-montages with captions naming every dog and rat who managed to make an appearance.

Is this really an example of responsible journalism? Have our priorities skewed so badly out of shape? Who should we hold responsible for this massive desensitization of our people? The media, films, directors, society or simply the Indian mentality?

Kya aap control kartein hain?

with 2 comments

No this isn’t some sarcastic or humourous post, cleverly adorned with a catchy title. It’s something I really want to ask people I know or people I think have some sense in them.

Do we really show some control when put in a situation where we can have whatever we want? Do we really see beyond such a situation and think about the consequences of our actions? Do we really have a complete picture of the future when we act in a particular way?

All this angst comes from a visit to the amusement park yesterday. I’m sure I’m coming off as a total cookie bird here but that was what my time spent with the kids from a nursing home some days back made me realize. It was that bunch of cheerful young kids who made me realize how selfish we all are. We just want to have “fun” while we can. Take advantage of every opportunity that we can. Rue about the lack of “action” in our lives and cloud our sense of judgement. And all this over confidence leads us to think that everything we do is just alright.

And many of those kids were in the nursing home as a result of such over confident, selfish acts. A look at their faces and even a stone heart would’ve melted. But hear their story and you’ll be confused by a deluge of hatred, disgust and sadness. Most of these kids are HIV +ve. And a lot of them have even contracted AIDS. And as if it wasn’t enough they were also abandoned by their biological parents. Most parents were too poor to take care of the kid or simply too selfish to think only about themselves.

Well I can’t change the way paramours and nymphomaniacs think but I can only exhort everyone to take some precautions.

Use protection. You’re not too proud to ask for a condom over the counter. And women folk. You’re only STUPID if you prefer contracting an STD over gaining a few pounds by not using contraceptives.

Get your blood checked regularly. I can’t emphasize on this enough.

As far as possible stick to one partner. I know most of us have a lot of peer pressure these days. Someone’s friend is sleeping with the hottest model on the ramp. Someone else’s neighbour’s getting boned by her boss. You may be getting a lot of action, but then you’re also getting closer to death with every hump.

And remember, life ain’t worth living if you haven’t found something worth dying for. And if you fail to get the import of all this, may I suggest paying a visit to those kids.

Ciao.
