USB Slippers

without comments

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.usNo this is not some joke like Google Gulp. Nor is it as stupid as a “battery powered battery charger” or “a book on how to read”. It is very much real. There is someone who has gone and invented something called USB slippers. I acknowledge the fact that there are cold regions in this world. There are extremely cold nights I have spent wishing I had a pair of comfortable warm furry slip-ons to keep my feet warm. But this is an uber-geeky way to achieve that. What’s more it’s very much cross-platform addressing owners of even PS2s and Xbox, alongwith the normal fare of PCs & Macs.

Go get ‘em you sick puppies!

Another blow to democracy

without comments

The US Govt. is seriously considering a Bill which would seriously hamper the way internet is accessed. Or at least the speed at which it is accessed. To put it very concisely, the Bill states that websites that need more bandwidth or faster access will have to pay more to their service providers. Now this only means that the usual suspects viz. Google (especially the not so new yet popular video service), Yahoo (with its Launchpad service), Apple (with its iTunes reaching a million song downloads) and of course YouTube (the 64% market share holder in video hosting) will be the most affected by this move. They are either going to have to tone down their bandwidth consumption by providing lower quality streaming or even worse, start charging pay-per-view style.

As usual advocates of democracy lobbied their balls out but then the highly conservative bench of US senators proved too tough to give in to their liberal demands. John Kerry however proposed to Filibuster his way into delaying the Bill from becoming a law. The repurcussions of this new development are under study but I’m sure ISPs are having a ball with this new legislation.

My reaction “Shit!”

The dorling connection

without comments

No intention to hurt Kannada film buffs out here. Nor any innuendos towards the content of the late Dr. Rajkumar’s ‘popular’ songs. It’s this irresistable itch that keeps getting me to post thes amazing loads of mierda out here.

Here are a few gems carefully selected for your viewing pleasure. Must watch with headphones/speakers on.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOy5mF-xoTA (If you come today…it’s too early)

In this song the superstar seems to have an issue with his dor-ling coming anywhere near him at any time of the day or even the next day. Plus the clock imitation “tick-tick-tick-tick-tick” teamed with the sideway slide is pure gold.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzwmcbrLv7Y (Louve me aar hate me)

Here the one and wonly shoopershtaar sings to a few clueless foreigners on a boat in Kashmir as they nod their heads to the half english – half kannada rock n roll song.
Nothing else to say but…enjoy maadi!!!

Some more DTS-Fi pics

with one comment

Here are some photoshop’ed pics of the Bajaj DTS-Fi soon to be launched. The dude has tried to depict the new offering from the Bajaj stables in a spectrum of vivid colours and I must say it looks good. Only I think if the front side (or rather the overall) clearance were kept a bit lower it would have been a smashing hit. Maybe the design is still being worked on. Who knows?

Meanwhile check out the link below.

Indiranagar – safe no more

with 3 comments

I had this email forwarded to me through one of the mailing lists for Marathi people in Bangalore. However I found it extremely important for everyone who is either already residing or planning to shift to Bangalore. I am posting this letter here without the permission of the sender, but I think he won’t have any issues since it’s only in public interest.

Hi,

Last night I was returning from office at around 10.45 PM in my car.

Four persons on two old bikes started following my car from the 13th Main area on Indiranagar 100ft road. I did not pay much attention to them. However, as I slowed down at 17th Main to get into Kodihalli, one bike overtook me and started controlling my car speed by slowing down in front of the car. The other bike was on the right leaving no room to maneuver. I was forced to stop the car then. The two guys from the bike which stopped ahead of the car got down and came on to my car and started thumping the doors and glasses. I was thoroughly scared and took a swift diversion between the two bikes started accelerating my car.

I started driving the car at around 90 KMPH in the 20-30 ft wide roads in Kodihalli area. They chased me till my house and followed me into the apartment building basement. Meanwhile I had alerted the security and few workers in the adjacent building construction. However, those mugs were not scared and created a scene such a way that I had hit their bikes and was trying to run away. Then I told them to approach the police. But they did not want it and said I had to pay money. Meanwhile, I had also called building secretary. Once he arrived they just ran away.

Then we went and informed Jeevan Bheema Nagar Police. Two constables and CI had come with us to the area, they had also alerted Police Patrol. All of them started searching in the near by areas. The CI sat in my car and took me along with him all over the area and asked me to show him where all I had travelled. Finally Police saw two mugs on the connecting road between Airport Road and Jeevan Bheema Nagar road and started chasing them. They were chased till K R Puram where they managed to escape.

Later in the night (at around 3 AM) police called me to Police Station and prepared a portrait of one of the mugs with my inputs. Then they found that the picture came out is very similar to the suspect of one another such incident that had happened three days ago in the same area. Unfortunately the victim had got down from the car in that incident and was beaten up very badly before he got mugged. CI says that I was lucky to escape.

The so called safe Indira Nagar 100 ft road does not remain same anymore. Please take care.

Thanks and Regards,
XXXXXX

All I have to say is either don’t travel late in deserted areas such as described by author of the letter above or at least seek someone’s company during such nightly driving.

Degree of separation

without comments

Was reading the Extremetech feed after long and came across this beautiful Japanese-style CPU case mod done by 19 year old Nicholas Falzone. Someday I've gotta get myself one of these. Just goes to prove that there is no limit to human creativity.

What's more interesting though is the college where this immensely talented boy comes from. The California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. And guess who else is from this college? The very creative (though some may disagree on this) and immensely funny Weird Al Yankovich, who did Architecture while at Cal Poly. Apart from these two though, I found mostly notorious stuff on the college's Wikipedia page :D

Mumbai gets the Raspberry

without comments

There! Now are we truly happy? Mumbai, India's commercial capital, has been voted the rudest city in the world by Readers' Digest. The criteria for the decision however seemed to be quite stringent, considering most cities in India don't even meet 1/10th of those. Readers' Digest wants the citizens in Mumbai to do the following

three basic tests — holding the door open for someone right behind you; helping a passer-by pick up a dropped newspaper or pile of documents; thanking shoppers after their retail experience

If you ask me, most Indian cities would fail on each and every one of these. In Bangaloe itself I've seen most of these being flouted by public. If I pushed a door to walk through myself, people from the other side have tried to bust in before I could walk out. In a survey done by Outlook, Delhi was found to be the rudest and on counts which seemed more germane than the preposterous ones RD has suggested as the bases for judging a city's politeness.

Anyways, wake up my Mumbai-kar friends. It's time you lived up to a global reputation and overall expectations so that it becomes a better home for the multitude of people that pour in from all over the world.

No more power cuts

without comments

Pune has already achieved the status of the 1st city in India to have no load-shedding for quite some time. In a few days Pune will become the country's first city to have implemented a new scheme of power supply and generation. 30 of the top power consuming companies have decided to free up around 100 MW power by generating their own electricity.

This was decided as a consensus between the Maharashtra State Electricity Board and these companies. It could well have been a response to the ransacking of the local MSEB office by irate citizens.

But all in all it's great news. More on NDTV.
